They say the best people to help you, are those who have been through life’s experiences and come out the other side. Ideally healthier, stronger and happier!
Although I have completed the qualifications in nutritional therapy and NLP, I have experienced the many trials and tribulations of life to back up the theory.
I have always been interested in food. OK make that obsessed with food! But I am not alone, as shown in new clinical trials, a third of us spend a large percentage of our waking hours (and probably a few sleeping ones!) thinking about the next morsel we are going to consume.
Being on steroids for migraines for a couple of decades didn’t help my eating habits or my weight. I gave into the sugar cravings, which increased my desire for all things sweet and sugary. I was the one who ate all their Easter eggs by breakfast time on Easter Day or the chocolate Christmas decorations before they even made it onto the tree!
But sugar is addictive! That’s a fact! Modern research has proved it to be 8 times more addictive than cocaine. But whereas you might get help for a recognised drug addiction, there is less on offer for obesity until it is often too late and your health is seriously compromised, with joint degeneration, diabetes, heart issues or even certain cancers setting in.
But after years of my own struggles, I decided enough was enough, I needed to take control of my weight, my health and ultimately, my life.
So after a career as a Sales Manager for Sky Television and then 24 years as a Key Accounts Manager for a publisher, I decided to take my life in a new direction and re-train in an area that I was passionate about.
After hundreds of hours of lectures, webinars, clinical studies and exams, I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist with the Nutritional Healing Foundation. Added to this I have also completed Advanced Diplomas in Weight Loss, Personal Nutrition and Sports Nutrition.
But for me that was only half the picture, I knew from my own experiences, I needed to work on an emotional and intellectual level as well.
Everybody knows eating that box of chocolates or that daily latte and pastry is bad for us, but we still do it anyway. Why?
Or despite continually hitting your sales targets, you still feel stressed every morning. Why?
Or your last appraisal was outstanding, you still feel threatened by other colleagues and think they are more capable than you are. Why?
By learning how the mind works through studying for my Master Practitioner qualification in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programing) I began to understand the complicated nature of our brains and the power it has over every aspects of our life!
As Shakespeare said “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking about it makes it so.”
Everything you believe is a choice, so is the narrative you tell yourself about yourself is everything.
If you tell yourself you are not good enough, everyone is better than you or you can’t lose weight then that is what you will believe.
But through NLP techniques and positive mind set, that attitude can be changed and with that, your whole life can be transformed.
I am the walking talking proof that this is true. From decades of dealing with weight issues, being bullied at work to the point of thinking I was going to have a nervous breakdown, to surviving a divorce and the even more scary internet dating scene, I have well and truly come out the other side and I can help you to do the same and have a happier healthier and more purposeful life as well.
